Bentley Bentayga Test Drive at Broomhall House

The most luxurious, hand-built, all-terrain vehicle on Earth discovers Scotland’s most elegant 4×4 circuit

Historically luxury Barouche or Landau carriages have gracefully made their way through the parklands of Broomhall House and rolled around the 18th Century carriage driveway for their elegant occupants to be swept into one of Scotland’s grandest houses. Fast forward to today, some 300 years later, and so too has the world’s fastest luxury SUV, The Bentayga from Bentley and the no less elegant, journalist and broadcaster, Alan Douglas.

Bentley developed the Bentayga for the person who seeks new landscapes and takes a fresh look at their world and it has also prompted Broomhall Estate to take a fresh look at how the landscape around the extraordinary home of the family of Bruce, (lineal descendants of King Robert the Bruce), is used and enjoyed by guests who take the house for private dinners and business meetings or product launches and fashion shoots.

Bentley has ‘reappraised, reshaped and redefined the luxury SUV, and what it is capable of’, just as the Bruce family has re-envisioned and rediscovered what Broomhall House, and its park are capable of.

When Alan Douglas approached the Broomhall House team to test drive the 4×4 Bentley Bentayga at an unmistakably magical location, it was a request that sparked excitement and hard work in spades. In a matter of weeks the creation of a challenging two-mile 4×4 off-road route has intuitively enhanced the overall experience of the Broomhall House offering since it opened its doors for exclusive use, the first time in its 300-year-old history.

Bentley has ‘reappraised, reshaped and redefined the luxury SUV, and what it is capable of’, just as the Bruce family has re-envisioned and rediscovered what Broomhall House, and its park are capable of. The Picturesque style of the park is a thing of beauty created to provide the perfect setting for a mansion house – but now it is the perfect setting to challenge a hand-built car.

It was with bated breath that the team watched Alan take the Bentayga on the course’s inaugural circuit through steep inclines and tight corners, through gullies, up slippery surfaces and around the six acre lake to the picturesque 18th century limestone quarry. The course is set entirely within the estate, five minutes from Broomhall House, with no public roads to cross, so Alan could experience, not only the extraordinary technology and handling of car but the beauty of the historic parklands setting on his 30 minute driving exploration.

The makers of this striking car say, ‘Your Bentley adventures starts here’, we say: “your Broomhall House adventure starts here”, thanks to Bentley.
